WEEK 1-2: COMPUTER BASICS

Computer Overview
Computer is an electronic device that takes raw data as input from the user and processes these data under the control of set of instructions (called program) and gives the result (output) and saves output for the future use.

It can process both numerical and non-numerical (arithmetic and logical) calculations.

Computer has four main functions:

                         i.   Input data

                       ii.   Process data

                    iii.   Store data

                     iv.   Output data

WEEK 2-3: COMPUTER SYSTEM SOFTWARE

·          Operating System Concept

An operating system (OS): Is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs.

The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system and is the first program loaded into the computer by a boot program and remains in memory at all times.

Microsoft Windows Environment

WEEK 4-5: WORKING IN MICROSOFT WINDOW ENVIRONMENT

·          Windows Environment

The Windows environment is the onscreen work area provided by Windows, analogous to a physical desktop, and the operating system's core extension points. Learn how to leverage the desktop, taskbar, notification area, control panels, help, and user account control for your app.

Modes of Operation

The linux operating system used for the PARTICLE DAQ system can be used either in a terminal mode where you type commands or in a Windows Explorer style graphical user interface (GUI).

WEEK 7-8: INTERNET AND WORLD WIDE WEB

Network is a set of devices (often referred to as nodes) connected by communication links in order to communicate and share resources.

Computer networks may be classified according to the scale:-

1.       Local area network (LAN)

2.       Metropolitan area network (MAN)

3.       Wide area network (WAN)

Local area network (LAN)

LAN connects networking devices with in short span of area, i.e. small offices, home, nternet cafes etc.

Microsoft Office: Word

WEEK 9-11 WORD PROCESSOR

Microsoft word is a graphical word processing program that users can type with. It is made by the computer company Microsoft. Its purpose is to allow users to type and save documents. Similar to other word processors, it has helpful tools to make documents.

Microsoft Office: Excel

WEEK 12-14: SPREAD SHEETS

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that helps you record, analyze, and calculate data. The power of Excel comes from its ability to eliminate repetitive calculations and automatically update data to reflect changes you’ve made. Excel also allows you to organize and present your data using a variety of graphs and charts.

Spreadsheets can be used for

·      Budgeting

·      Calculations

·      Analyzing Data

·      Statistical methods

Installation of Basic Software

WEEK 15: INSTALLATION OF BASIC SOFTWARE

Windows 7 Installation 

In order to install your copy of the Windows 7 operating system please makes sure that you have to follow the following step.

Step 1: BIOS, Set boot option/ boot priority to media of your choice.

Step 2: Boot to option. Where you need to select language then next.

Step 3: Install now.

Step 4: Select version of operating system architect bitwise (32 or 64 bits).

Step 5: Agreement.

Step 6: Upgrade, Customize fresh installation.

Step 7: Create partition, if you want to install windows or Linux you divided your hard disk in dive C or Dfor windowsand unallocated space (free space for Linux).

 The installation is done! You have successfully installed Windows 7 on your computer.
